Pheffer Welcomes New SUNY Chancellor

Dr. Zimpher most recently served as the President of the University of Cincinnati (UC), an urban research university with 16 colleges, an academic medical and research center with an annual $1 billion budget. Dr. Zimpher spearheaded development of UC21: Defining the New Urban Research University. Under her leadership, UC's retention and graduation rates, student satisfaction ratings and national rankings all improved.

"I am ecstatic that our State University will continue its tradition of excellence under the guidance and direction of such an enthusiastic educator, who has vowed to work to ensure that SUNY is not only a model of education for the nation, but for the world," said Pheffer.

Dr. Zimpher holds a bachelor's degree in English Education and Speech, a master's degree in English Literature, and a Ph.D. in Teacher Education and Higher Education Administration, all from Ohio State University. She has also authored or coauthored numerous books, monographs and academic journal articles on teacher education, urban education, academic leadership, and school/ university partnerships.

The State University of New York (SUNY) is the nation's largest comprehensive public university system with some 440,000 students.
