Graduates From Tulane
Tulane University in New Orleans awarded degrees this month to approximately 2,200 graduates. Local student, Greg Augarten, of Far Rockaway, graduated from Tulane as a member of the historic "Katrina Class," those undergraduates who were at Tulane for only a few hours when they had to evacuate ahead of Hurricane Katrina in August 2005.
Tulane's Unified Commencement was held on May 16, 2009 in the Louisiana Superdome. The ceremony featured keynote speaker Ellen DeGeneres, honorary degree recipients Harry Connick Jr., HIV co-discoverer and Nobel Prize winner Francoise Barre-Sinoussi, health care advocate Jessie Gruman and architect William McDonough.
