The Beach Channel/Channel View High School Lady Dolphins celebrate after winning the 2009 PSAL Lacrosse championship with a 6-5 victory over the Tottenville Pirates on Sunday afternoon at Aviator Sports Complex. The Lady Dolphins won their first ever title by making a late comeback in the second half on a sunny afternoon against their Staten Island rivals. The female body found on Beach 28 Street on May 21 remains a mystery for both police and the medical examiner. A spokesperson for the medical examiner's office told The Wave on Tuesday that her office had not yet finished an autopsy that would show the cause of death and that police had not yet identified the woman. At the time the body was found, fully-clothed and lying on its back, police declined to speculate whether the mysterious death was a suicide or a homicide. Experts say that the lack of a definitive finding of the cause of death may mean a prolonged investigation by detectives from the 101 Precinct Squad, who are investigating the death. More...

Two local Rockaway students, Eva Lipiec and Ashley Marie Larcheveque, both made the Dean's Lists at their respective colleges for the Spring 2009 semester. Lipiec attends Bucknell University and Larcheveque attends Keene State College. Both schools require at least a 3.5 GPA to be included on the Dean's List. More...
