The Scholars' Academy boys' golf team scaled many heights this season in their first season in the PSAL.

The Seawolves finished with a 9-3 record in the Queens North Division and qualified for the PSAL playoffs.

But the season would end for the 11-seed Seawolves, who lost 4-1 against 7-seed McKee/Staten Island Tech in the first round on Tuesday May 26, at La Tourette Golf Course.

The Seawolves competed in the challenging North Queens division and finished in third place with losses to undefeated Benjamin Cardozo High School and two losses to Robert F. Kennedy High School.

The losses against RFK were epic battles, with 3 of the 5 matches hinging on the last hole of play.

Against all the other teams in Queens North, the Seawolves had a perfect record in beating John Bowne, and twice besting Jamaica High School, Bayside, Hillcrest, and the Queens High School of Teaching.

Not only did the Seawolves do well as a team, but a key player also earned a prestigious title.

Xander McDonald-Smith took top honors by winning the individual PSAL championships held on May 20 at Bethpage State Park.

For the second year in a row, McDonald-Smith won the individual golf championship by shooting a sixover par for a score of 78. The sophomore will compete for the New York State Federation Golf Championships on June 7 at the Mark Twain Golf Course in Elmira.

Coach Charles Hilgendorf and the Seawolves had a wonderful experience and made lots of friends all across Queens.

The Seawolves displayed plenty of heart and effort, which allowed a tiny 200-student high school to compete with some of the bigger high schools in Queens.
