Wrong About Coney Island

Dear Editor,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Fred Kahl and Susanna Graves for setting me straight. While my article "Trashed Invades Coney Island" dealt primarily with the anniversary party for the Trashed Motorcycle Club, I did reference the Freak Show and I apparently had my facts wrong. If my words had a negative impact on anyone associated with Coney Island or the Freak Show I hope that they will accept my humblest apologies. The truth is that I am happy that I was wrong. Obviously, I did not want to put my foot in my mouth, but the good news is that there is not one, but two Freak Shows thriving in Coney Island! With other shows like Burlesque at the Beach and the Great Fredini's This or That there is no question that Coney Island is alive and well!

This exchange has been a learning experience for me. I have learned that the freaks have not left Coney Island, that my column is read outside of Rockaway and that Fred Kahl has always thought of me as a knucklehead. That's kinda funny because I never picked that up from him. Oh well, live and learn, right Fred? Mr. Kahl's statement that I am, "spreading misinformation as usual!" struck me as being rather strange also, considering that my column is built around my personal experiences and therefore how could Fred possibly know more about my life than me? If there is anyone who can offer any instances where I have been dishonest or misleading, please bring them to my attention so that I might offer clarification or eat some more crow.

In closing, I would like to urge all of my readers to visit Coney Island this season. This American treasure is right on our doorstep and is totally unique in the world of entertainment. So when you're tired of cable TV and the "run of the mill" just won't cut it, go to www.ConeyIsland.com and find some real entertainment.
