The Rockaway Play
My name is Camilla Monopoli, I am a student at the New York Film Academy. I grew up in Milan, Italy and have been living in New York City for nine months. Over the last months I have found myself drawn to Rockaway Park more and more. When it came time for me to begin writing a script for my Thesis film, Rockaway Park was a mainspring of inspiration.
I am now in the exciting stages of pre-production and will be filming in the John Baxter Hotel of Rockaway Park in 16mm film stock. I will be shooting in 16mm because it is a format which captures the old, yet timeless quality of the Baxter Hotel. I would also like to cast actors from Rockaway Park to really highlight the feel of the area. I find there is a very unique pulse in Rockaway; a place with peculiar beats, a place with a strong cultural identity and history which local people want to preserve and I hope to capture in my film.
My short film is a fantastical love story of a couple staying at the Ocean Motel (Baxter Motel); I want the film to be a vaudeville show of sorts, charmingly obscene. Along with this film I want to include on the DVD, as a Special Feature, a documentary about Rockaway Park.
The Show will also be doing a piece on this film. They will begin filming the audition and follow us through the development of the project.
10.9the worst possible time to scale back on these critical programs and services. That is why we must do everything we can to let our friends in government know how important libraries are to the people of Queens and ask them for their support in restoring Queens Library's budget.
The City Council and the Mayor will negotiate the final budget during the next several weeks. Your voice right now in support of libraries can make the difference.
Please contact your City elected officials and let them know you want libraries to remain open.
