Doctor Turns Into An Author

Dear Editor,

I was born and raised in Rockaway, attended P.S. 106, Far Rockaway High School and CCNY uptown. During and after my university days, which included Rutgers, Howard and the University of Toronto, my lifetime careers were as a symphony violinist in the U.S. and a pharmaceutical chemist in Canada. On retirement in Mexico, where I presently reside, I have continued my career as an author. I have written and produced stage plays, Canadian TV dramas and had numerous short stories published. My fourth novel, "A Candle Before Midnight," has just been released.

Taken from my real life experiences in Rockaway, it is the saga of a Croatian immigrant family growing up in the Rockaway's during the Depression and Second World War. Although it is a novel, many actual persons and events from the Rockaways during that era are faithfully and historically portrayed, especially Far Rockaway High School.

In my other three novels, "Fighting the Man," "North Star Pilgrim" and "The Splintered House," I have also used the Rockaways as the locale. But in "A Candle Before Midnight," there is much more historical data with which I believe your readership would identify.

I undertook to write this novel because I have always believed that there has been a literary paucity in the Rockaway story of that era.
