St. John's Episcopal Hospital Honors EMS

For National Emergency Medical Services Week, St. John's Episcopal Hospital honored the men and women of EMS of Rockaway and Nassau County with a luncheon held on Friday, May 22, 2009, at the Hospital. National Emergency Medical Services Week was held May 17 through May 23, 2009.

John Gupta, Chief Executive Officer of St. John's Episcopal Hospital, said that day, "It has been my personal mission since coming to St. John's more than a year and a half ago to strengthen our partnership with EMS . . .

There are few people more vital to our hospital and community than EMS." He thanked them all and the EMS system for their "extraordinary service."

The Emergency Department staff of St. John's selected an emergency medical technician (EMT) from Queens County and an ambulance medical technician (AMT) from Nassau County to be honored. The honorees were: AMT Joseph Garofalo from the Nassau County Emergency Ambulance Bureau and EMT Ryan Vasselman, EMS, New York City Fire Department.

EMT Ryan Vasselman (third from left) received a plaque from St. John's Episcopal Hospital for his outstanding commitment to the community.
