With the weeds and garbage gone, and the sand smoothed down - the beach in Far Rockaway is ready to welcome guests this summer. Disney volunteers, as part of the company's community initiatives program, fanned out across the lower part of Far Rockaway beach last Saturday as the preparations continued for this week's beach opening by Parks and Recreation.

In addition to Disney, workers from Parks prepared the sand and reinstalled the mobile mats on Rockaway's boardwalk.

According to one volunteer, at least 22 people from Disney came out on the dreary, cold Saturday morning to help clean Far Rockaway's beach. The Parks Department has finished fixing the boardwalk from Beach 20 to Beach 23 Streets. Visitors to the beach will also find new benches on which to relax. In the future, more work is scheduled to be done on the boardwalk on both ends of the peninsula. The Parks Department has finished fixing the boardwalk from Beach 20 to Beach 23 Streets.
