Unlicensed Driver Causes Pileup On RBB
The actions of an unlicensed driver, who, police say, was distracted by pedestrians on the sidewalk, caused a multi-car collision Monday afternoon on the corner of Beach 91 Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard.
According to reports filed by the pollice officers who responded to the scene, the four-car accident occurred as the unlicensed driver, Donna Marino of Belle Harbor, was heading east on the boulevard.
Marino's attention turned to pedestrians on the southeast corner of Beach 91 Street and RBB. When she looked back to the road, however, the 40-year-old woman realized that her 2008 Nissan had drifted into the westbound lane, which resulted in her vehicle sideswiping a BMW driven by Lillyette Wilder of Far Rockaway, which was traveling west.
Wilder's car then collided with a cab from The Deuces car service, which was heading south on Beach 91 Street. The impact, in turn, pushed the cab's open door into a parked car on the northwest corner of Beach 91 Street.
Cab driver Angel Perez, 36, and Grace Gardiner, 61, were taken to Peninsula Hospital. No further information on their injuries is available. Marino was cited for operating a vehicle without a license.
