Crockett, Gentile Honored

Cathy Crockett received a prestigious honor when the Breezy Point resident was inducted to the Brooklyn/ Queens Catholic High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame on April 30 at Russo's On The Bay in Howard Beach.

Crockett retired this year after serving 22 years as the girls' varsity basketball coach at Bishop Kearney High School in Brooklyn. She won 349 games, won four CHSAA state titles and captured two New York State Federation titles.

"In TV people win Emmys, singers win Grammys," Crockett said in an article by fiveborosports.com. "I guess this is the Emmy, Grammy of [highschool] basketball."

Also inducted into the Hall of Fame was Nancy Gentile, who coached the Stella Maris Lady Flippers junior and varsity volleyball program. She also served as the BGCHSAA volleyball chairperson.
