Clean Up Beach 116 Street

Dear Editor,

In response to Mr. Tiradelli's letter in the May 1 issue, I totally agree that it's time to get rid of the brothels and crack houses on Beach 116 Street. If it isn't done there won't ever be any long lasting good businesses there.

Last summer I brought my kids from Mt. Vernon out to the beach I used to love. On the way from the beach to the subway we walked in front of the Rockaway Park Hotel. Men were sitting in front of the door smoking and drinking! A young girl was talking about needing to find some "MF" to pay her rent. She didn't use the initials though. One of the men told her that if she didn't pay soon she would be barred from coming in and her room would be cleaned out.

It was a horror to have my kids hear this. I had to answer some uncomfortable questions on the way home.

Like Mr. Tiradelli says, this sort of business must be good for the Rockaway economy but I won't be supporting any of it.

I take the kids out on Long Island now. Even the language is cleaner out there.

Let me know when Rockaway wakes up and closes the house of filth. Maybe I'll come back then if it's not too late. I just can't believe what the strip has come to these days and that the local police and politicians just let it all go! I hear you can get parking tickets for putting your car where it doesn't belong but from the looks of it anything else goes on Beach 116. It's a damn shame.
