Slings Shots At Cops, Nabbed After Chase
A Rockaway thug fired in the direction of two police officers and a group of onlookers last Friday night, then threw his gun on the roof of a garage and fled the scene, only to be run down by one of the cops he shot at, court documents allege.
Police say that they were observing a group of teens at the corner of Beach 87 Street and the Rockaway Freeway at about 10:48 p.m. on May 8 when they saw Scott run toward the group and the police cruiser, firing two shots in their direction.
Police Officer Alex Martins said that he identified himself as a police officer and told Scott to stop and drop his weapon.
Scott ran, throwing his black 10 mm Delta/Elite Colt automatic pistol on the roof of an automobile repair garage at the corner of Rockaway Freeway and Beach 88 Street.
Martins gave chase and eventually caught Scott in the backyard of a nearby home.
The gun was recovered from the roof of the garage at 309 Beach 87 Street, and was found to have four 9 mm rounds in the magazine.
Police say that Scott resisted arrest and had to be restrained at the scene.
According to court documents provided by Queens District Attorney Richard Brown, Scott was arraigned on May 10 on charges of criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment and resisting arrest.
His bail was set at $50,000. Scott's next court date is set for May 26.
