Named 'Top Black Doctor'

Dr. Sandra Nurse, a member of the Queens Long Island Medical Group board of directors and a practicing Internal Medicine physician at the QLIMG, Rockaway Medical Office in Far Rockaway, has been named one of the top black doctors in New York City.

Dr. Nurse notes that "the Far Rockaway medical office is going through a transition; we are a newly renovated, state-of-the-art medical office that has instituted the Medical Home Model. With our goal being patients first, we are incorporating this new model to further increase patient care and satisfaction. Our goal at QLIMG is to provide quality comprehensive care. So when you come in for a cold and you're due for labs, EKG or any shots, you can get everything that you need from highly trained caring professionals all in one day."

The Medical Home Care Model is specifically designed to maximize patient care and reduce patient run around. This system, which includes not only physicians but registered nurses and LPNs, provides excellent care and expedites a patient's visit.

Nurse knew she would be a doctor from the tender age of four years old, and her love for the profession has not wavered since. "I absolutely love what I do and my goal as a physician is to be the best doctor that I can be, always having my patients' best interest at heart. As a physician I am proud of the fact that my dedication and work ethic enables me to be one of the top performing doctors at QLIMG."

"In my 13 years with QLIMG I have seen and dealt with many patients, some more challenging than others, but it is that diversity that makes no day like any other." Nurse went on to cite an example of a recent case involving a patient in his 50s; "The patient was loosing weight and having diarrhea. He went to the emergency room for abdominal pain and had a battery of tests. He came to me with a paper saying he should be sent to a gastroenterologist and lung specialist because of a shadow on his chest x-ray. Being a persistent thorough doctor, I insisted on ordering my own test based on the patient's complaints. It turns out his diagnosis was hyperthyroidism, nothing that would require him to see a lung specialist or gastroenterologist. The patient and his wife were so happy that I made a speedy diagnosis and I got them connected with the endocrinologist to have a complete and appropriate workup. Being able to make the right decision that benefits the patient really makes my day."
