Queens Civic Congress To Host Parks Forum At PS 114
The Queens Civic Congress (QCC) hosts a forum, "State of Queens Parks 2009" with First Deputy Parks Commissioner Liam Kavanagh, Queens Parks Commissioner Dorothy Lewandowski and Parks advocates, at a special membership meeting, Tuesday, May 19, 8:30 p.m., at PS 114—the Belle Harbor School, located at Cronston Avenue and Beach 134 Street, announced QCC President Corey B. Bearak. The Borough-wide coalition of more than 110 civic, community, condo, co-operative, homeowner and tenant organizations also plans to announce candidates forums focused on Parks and Preservation issues for Queens City Council Candidates also sponsored by New Yorkers for Parks' Parks2009 and Historic District Council's League of Preservation Voters during the month of June.
"Commissioners Kavanagh and Lewandowski will form a panel with New Yorkers for Parks Executive Director Christian Di Palermo, Rockaways Parks Supervisor Jill Weber, and Carsten W. Glaeser Ph.D, Arborist and chair, QCC Subcommittee for Tree and Landscape Protection," according to QCC Vice President and Parks Committee co-chair, Barbara Larkin who is president of the host civic, Beller Harbor Property Owners Association. Mrs. Larkin co-chairs the program with her QCC Parks co-chair, Kim Ohanian and Fred Kress, President of the co-sponsoring Queens Coalition for Parks and Green Spaces, QCC's "parks partner"
"We look forward to exploring important Parks issue s," added Mr. Bearak, "including concessions, privatization, the state of Queens' neighborhood parks and playgrounds and the adequacy of lifeguards to open our beaches this summer." Mrs. Larkin noted, "The Belle Harbor Property Owners Association meets at 7:15 p.m. and QCC's Parks Forum follows at 8:30 p.m."
