Titus To Hold Community Meeting

Assemblywoman Michele R. Titus (D-South Ozone Park) will hold a Community Meeting on Thursday, May 21, 2009, at 7:30 p.m., at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, located at 147th Avenue and 225 Street in Springfield Gardens.

Assemblywoman Titus will cover some of the legislative successes made in Albany that impact the 31st Assembly District. She will also cover what services exist and outline some of the reasons we do not have all the services needed in the district.

"We know how rapidly all of our communities have changed and are still changing physically. No one needs to remind any of us about the downshift in the economy and what it has done to erode our financial resources and much-needed community services. It is up to us to make sure we are prepared when opportunities that could benefit our communities arise," stated Assemblywoman Titus. We need to begin now to get a handle on what we would like to see in our future and not wait for it to be defined for us."

The Census Bureau will present and distribute the current statistics and explain why the 2010 Census is so important to the communities in Assemblywoman Titus's district. She added, "The information collected through the Census count is the basis for decision-making on every level from federal to state to city to county to community. This counting process has absolutely nothing to do with a person's citizenship status. However, it does have everything to do with the dollars and services we receive in the district."

This event is open to all residents, businesses, prospective business owners, nonprofit organizations, educators, parents associations, high school and college students, civic organizations, daycare centers, houses of worship, and anyone else who has an interest in living, doing business, or providing a service in the 31st Assembly District. There will be giveaways and light refreshments.

If you have any questions about the meeting, you may call the office of Assemblywoman Titus at 718-327- 1845 or 718-322-4958.
