M.Y. S.I.S.T.A.H Coming To Inwood
M.Y. S.I.S.T.A.H (Mentoring young sisters instilling self esteem teaching ambition honesty) African American Mentoring Program is coming to 360 Bayview Avenue, Inwood, on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at 3:00 p.m.
The Far Rockaway and Inwood community will be forever changed with the introduction of MY SISTAH, an African American mentoring program designed to help young girls between the ages of 11 and 16 experience and work through the Rites of Passage to becoming a woman.
This program works diligently with each girl to develop and instill positive self esteem and self concept, a sense of community and the faith that despite their hardship they can all emerge as future leaders.
Mrs. Karen N. Shivers is the founder and the director of this new program. Her tenacity and determination to help her community is captured in the following statement, "I can no longer sit by and watch another generation fall victim to the ills of our society (teenage pregnancies, welfare, violence, sexual promiscuity, etc). My daughter's generation will be given the tools they need to succeed, I promise you that!"
With her arsenal of educated and strong African American women educators (medical doctors, college professors, business owners, etc.), the young ladies of MY SISTAH will have plenty of positive role models to emulate.
While MY SISTAH is sure to capture the hearts of parents / caregivers, it is sure to delight even the most skeptical adolescent. The program caters specifically to the young group it serves. From their girl talks to their planned trips and events. Your daughter will find one adventure after the next at MY SISTAH. Open House is Saturday, May 16, 2009, 3 p.m., at the Wings of Faith Ministries located at 360 Bayview Avenue, Inwood, NY 11096 (seats are limited).
This program is open to young girls 11 - 16 years old.
