Broad Channel Monday Night Bowling Brings Back Memories
Thirty years ago from the start of the Broad Channel Monday Night Bowling League, new champions were recently crowned.
The challengers, The Young Guns of the league, played against the Broad Channel Athletic Club Bowling team.
The Broad Channel A.C. Bowling team was all seasoned veterans of the league, with championship bowling patches on both arms. This great rivalry was always compared to New York Rangers and New York Islanders hockey games.
The Broad Channel Athletic Club team consists of Willie Wiese, John (Boo Boo) Wagner Sr., Denis McEneaney, George (Pudge) Chamberlain, Bob (Smiles) Glade and Willie Tobin.
The Young Gun Challengers were: John McEneaney, Tim Sarosy, Jack Conneely, Ed Murray, Harry McMahon, Peter Guttiteri and Tom Kushner. The challengers went on to victory that night in 1979 to win their first championship. Now thirty years later, a few challengers are still bowling, but they are the seasoned veterans now.
The challengers and the Broad Channel A.C. Bowling teams had something very something very special years ago, which will ever be duplicated. Two teams, great competitors and rivals, but most of all, they are great friends. As years go on, the bowling stories get better, and the memories last a lifetime.
