The sprawling Arverne By The Sea development, which is quickly changing the face of Rockaway with new homes and amenities, has made the cover of the April issue of a prestigious national magazine, "Professional Builder."

The magazine features the new homes at Arverne as its monthly "Best Address," calling the new homes at ABTS "upscale, privately-owned homes with [their] own attached rental unit [which] proves to be a winning combination for New York buyers and developer Benjamin-Beechwood."

"The development is situated on the southern tip of Long Island's Rockaway peninsula that once hosted vacation goers around the turn of the twentieth century but sat abandoned for decades," the article continues. "The ocean front development is a steal for middle-class buyers: it has a reasonable commute time to downtown Manhattan, a 20-year tax abatement program from the city and housing plans with a for-lease component."

Arverne By The Sea, the article points out, opened for sales in 2004 and will eventually feature six distinct "neighborhoods."

Four of the neighborhoods will feature two-family residences exclusively, while two others will offer clusters of mid-rise retail/office/condominium buildings.

To date, the builder has focused on developing the two-family neighborhoods, with the construction of the mid-rise neighborhoods set for early 2010.

Palmer's Landing and The Sands, the first of the two-family neighborhoods, are already sold out, the magazine says. The Breakers, it adds, another of the two-family neighborhoods, is 95 percent sold out.

The Dunes, the largest of the neighborhoods with 270 homes planned, are now being sold.

The development will also bring Rockaway and the residents of Arverne By The Sea a new YMCA, Super Stop and Shop supermarket and several new shops and restaurants.

Ocean views were a priority for the architects working on the development's design. Ocean views were a priority for the architects working on the development's design. "Professional Builder" is one of 80 business publications that are published by Reed Business Information, billed as the largest business-to-business publisher in the nation.
