The 31st annual Rockaway Rotary Ocean Run, sponsored by Sweet'N Low stepped off under beautiful skies last Sunday morning at Beach 116 Street and the Boardwalk. The race drew 160 runners for this year's event, run in memory of Rockaway activist Barbara Eisenstadt. An after-race party and awards ceremony was held at the Irish Circle restaurant. A problem arose a number of years ago at a prominent, private school. It decided to eliminate any celebration of Mother's Day because of the diversity of family structures which the school population represented. The thinking was not to hurt anyone. Geraldine Paulin, 70, a longtime Rockaway resident, died April 18. Paulin was born on September 2, 1938 in Atlanta, Georgia. She is survived by a loving and devoted husband, James Paulin; five sisters, Claudia, Margarett, Elizabeth, Mary and Thelma; one brother, Carl Bruno; two brothers-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
