St.Virgilius/ St. Camillus Shamrocks Play Two

Last weekend saw the St. Virgilius/ St. Camillus Shamrocks open up there baseball season in the CYO Sub Novice Division with a game Saturday and again on Sunday morning.

Saturday's contest had the Shamrocks on the road against Our Lady of Hope in there season opener.

Against a tough Hope team, the Shamrocks put forth a solid effort, but came up short in the end. Grace Collins and Jazen Martinez were the offensive stars with two hits a piece. Joe Iannello displayed a slick glove at second base as the Shamrock defense was tested all day.

The Shamrocks had a quick turnaround with the home opener Sunday morning at Memorial Field in Broad Channel. St. Matthias came to town and the Shamrocks would not be denied with a thrilling 1-0 victory.

The fielding was spectacular as Bryan Bostwick led the way from third base with exceptional defense. If the fielding was spectacular, the pitching was phenomenal as Jack Allen Mike O'Connell and Hazen Martinez pitched a four hit shutout with ten strikeouts combined.

With the game scoreless in the bottom of the sixth, Danny Clark led off with a walk. It set the stage for O'Connell, who smacked the first pitch he saw for a triple as Clark scampered all the way from first to score the winning run and give the Shamrocks the walk-off victory. The Shamrocks play two again this weekend with games against Blessed Trinity, Saturday and Sunday. Stop by and cheer the kids on. WHO ROCKS?? SHAMROCKS!!!!!!!
