SFDS Third Grade Blue Team Finishes Close Second
After losing its first game to St. Cecilia's 21-20 in a game that was well played by both teams, the SFDS Blue third grade team fought their way back by winning their next four games in the losers' bracket to make the championship game.
In the finals, SFDS Blue once again faced St. Cecilia's. The Blue team started the game strong and had a 3- point lead in the second quarter. However, St. Cecilia turned up their defense in the second half and beat SFDS Blue by 5 points to win the championship.
All the SFDS boys on this team should be proud of how hard they played and by the way, they represented the SFDS CYO program well.
The team had three players, Timothy Connolly, John Moran, and Matthew Ostrander, who were named to the all-tournament team.
These three players represented SFDS in an all-star game following the tournament and each played extremely well.
Connolly (14 points) and Ostrander (10 points) led the Blue All-Stars in scoring.
Moran scored 14 of his game-high 18 points during a second half comeback to lead the SFDS White team to victory.
For this effort, Moran was named the Most Valuable Player of the game.
