PHC Dentist Assists Day Care Center
Benjamin Shirley, D.D.S., a resident from Peninsula Hospital Center's Department of Dentistry, provided the children of the Blanche #2 Community Progress Day Care Center, with an age-appropriate, interesting and interactive presentation about how important dental hygiene is no matter how old you are. Ms. Debbie Mattison, a teacher's aide at the Day Care Center invited a member of PHC's Dental Department to speak to the children and Florence Williams, Director, is looking forward to additional presentations. "Dr. Ben", as he was known to the children, showed the children (ages 2 through 5) how to brush their teeth and explained to the children how they can take care of their teeth so they last a lifetime. Dr. Shirley was impressed with the attention of the children, their active participation in his presentation and how much they knew about teeth. "The children were attentive, active contributors and my belief is that there may be a future dentist amongst the group!" stated Dr. Shirley. Peninsula Hospital Center provides speakers for organizations and schools on the peninsula through its Department of External Affairs.
