Double Dutch Jumpers Compete In Championship

The Sorrentino Recreational Center on Saturday afternoon will host the 29th Annual Rockaway Double Dutch Championships.

The event, which features the world double-dutch champions Stan's Pepper Steppers, will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

It's expected that the Sorrentino Center will be a packed house with teams expected to compete from the five boroughs and from Long Island.

Teams will be representing from Albany, Belleport, Brooklyn, Harlem and the Bronx.

Stan's Pepper Steppers will compete against other city, state and out of state teams. Competitors from the third grade through high school will compete in singles and double events. Jumpers will compete in either the novice or advanced division.

The event will take place at the Sorrentino Center, a part of the City of New York Department of Parks and Recreation, located at 1848 Cornaga Avenue. For more information, please contact Stan Brown at 718- 471-4818.

Stan's Pepper Steppers will also compete in the American Double Dutch League City/ State Double- Dutch Championship. The event will be held on Saturday, May 30 at IS 219 (Charles Drew School) in the Bronx.

The first place winner in the event will be invited to represent New York State in the World Invitational championships held at the University Center in Sumter, South Carolina from June 18 to June 20.
