Rockaway Fighters Aim To Win Golden Gloves

By Elio Velez

There are no more days of training and sparring for Joseph Williams. The 21-year old boxer gets his chance to shine as he takes on Patrick Neumann in the Daily News Golden Gloves tonight at the WAMU Theater in Madison Square Garden.

Williams will compete in the 201+ novice heavyweight class championship as part of a scheduled 14 fights that will take place tonight.

Kenyatta Harris, Williams' trainer, and who is one of the driving forces who is one of the directors of the Rockaway Ropes Boxing Club at 57-10 Beach Channel Drive, says Williams is ready. "He feels great. He's done the training and the sparring. This is it. I just want Far Rockaway to be represented with a win," Harris said.

Two other fighters representing from Rockaway will also participate. Marcus Browne, a highly regarded 165-pound fighter, will try to record his second straight Golden Gloves title tonight. Browne will take on Naim Terbunja.

Travis Hall competed in the 125- pound novice class championship on April 15 against Abdul Perry. Hall represents the South Jamaica PAL. The fight occurred as the Wave went to press.

We will have results next week.
