Daffodils Bloom For 9-11 In The Spring

Once again, the peninsula is chock full of yellow daffodils and many locals do not know the genesis of the numerous sites that have the beautiful blooms. The great majority of them were planted by local garden clubs, firefighters and school groups as a living memorial to those Rockaway residents who lost their lives in the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. They are welcome, many locals say, as both a beautiful reminder of spring and a memorial to the loved ones lost on that tragic day.
