Pavel Berklayd, MD, Chairman of Anesthesiology, St. John's Episcopal Hospital. Pavel Berklayd, MD, Chairman of Anesthesiology, St. John's Episcopal Hospital. Pavel Berklayd, MD, has been named the Chairman of Anesthesiology by St. John's Episcopal Hospital.

Dr. Berklayd is responsible for the administrative and clinical activities of the department.

"Dr. Berklayd is the right person to lead this department," said John Gupta, Chief Executive Officer of St. John's Episcopal Hospital. "He has excellent qualifications to take this important service to the next level," Gupta added.

Of his goals, Berklayd said, "By the time I arrived, the anesthesiology staff was a little overwhelmed by the volume of patients we were caring for. Even after I arrived to help with the case load, I felt we could use more help. So I've been busy recruiting and bringing in new anesthesiologists. This is important for the patients, too. Berklayd received his medical degree from Moscow State Medical Institute. He completed his urology residencies — one at Moscow City Hospital in Moscow, and another at Soroka Medical Center in Beer-Sheva, Israel. He served a transitional year residency at Saint Mary's Health Services in Michigan, and then a full residency in anesthesiology at New York University Medical Center.
