Summer '09 Bridge And Tunnel Officer Program

The MTA Bridges and Tunnels Seasonal BTO Program is designed to allow students to gain an exposure to bridge operations and to provide the Authority with staffing for seasonal demand. The principal responsibility of Seasonal BTOs is the collection of tolls at the Marine Parkway and Cross Bay Bridges. Please note that the assignments available are located at the Marine Parkway and Cross Bay Bridges only. Seasonal BTOs are required to work in all weather and climate conditions and must be able to lift and to carry items of varying weight and size safely through toll facilities including lanes with active vehicular traffic. To ensure that candidates can perform the essential functions of the position of Seasonal BTO and to ensure the safety of the individual employee, other MTA Bridges and Tunnels employees, and the riding public, MTA Bridges and Tunnels has established certain medical, physical and psychological qualification standards.

Who can apply:

Current full-time high school seniors or full-time students at accredited colleges or universities who are at least 18-years-of-age by June 30, 2009 , or by the date of the first day of work. Applicants who have been employed as a Seasonal BTO for two summers are ineligible.

To qualify student must: be currently enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited college or university or a High School senior;

be at least 18-years-of-age by June 30, 2009 , or by the date of the first day of work; possess a high school diploma or GED by the date of the first day of work; possess a valid unrestricted New York State driver license; not have any felony convictions; be a U.S. citizen and be a New York State resident; be referred by an MTA employee or submit a written recommendation from a current teacher on school letterhead or on the form included in the application; be available for fulltime summer work, including weekends, holidays, evenings and overtime as assigned.

To apply, students must submit a Summer Employment Application by April 17, 2009 along with the following: A certified or student copy of a college transcript from the school that you are presently attending. Other acceptable proof includes a Bursar's

receipt, letter from the Registrar or similar school official.

Candidate Selection: Will be made utilizing a lottery system for available positions. All qualified candidates will be notified of the results.

The Summer Employment Application filing period is from March 18, 2009 through April 17, 2009.

MTA Bridges and Tunnels Summer Employment Applications can be obtained from the infonet, 2 Broadway - 22nd Floor, or at the Robert Moses Administration Building on Randall's Island. Submit all application materials - no later than April 17, 2009 to:
