Fire Prankster Faces Up To Four Years
An Ozone Park man has been charged with and faces up to four years in prison for allegedly making 20 false 911 calls in Rockaway and Ozone Park since last year, according to Queens District Attorney Richard Brown.
Robert Silano, 22, is accused of making the calls anonymously starting on January 28, 2008 when he called 911 reporting that he smelled smoke coming from a home on 117 Street in Ozone Park around 6 a.m., according to reports.
He would report smelling smoke on that block 11 more times. Silano lives at 114-46 Sutter Avenue in Ozone Park and reported smelling smoke on that block on February 18, 2008. The other seven calls to 911 were to falsely report fires on the beach block of Beach 109 Street, in Rockaway, in November and December of last year.
Silano confessed to police last Monday after listening to recordings of the 911 calls. He was arraigned on March 24 and released without bail. He was charged with 20 counts of falsely reporting incidents and reckless endangerment.
Silano is expected back in court on May 6, 2009, according to a spokesperson for DA Brown.
