Gertrude Beckett, 80, a longtime Rockaway resident, died on March 24.
Beckett was born in Harlem and worked as a nurse at Park Nursing Home and at Neponsit Nursing Home as a recreational assistant for many years, from which she retired. She loved crocheting, and many other hobbies, including the love for her friends.
Beckett was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Beckett; daughter, Elizabeth Ross; sons, Vincent and Charles Beckett; granddaughter, Selena; and grandsons, Carlton and Thurstan.
She is survived by her three daughters, Lena Thomas, Brenda Brown, and Saundra Franklin; two sons, Michael Beckett and George Beckett (Rose Mary Beckett); 15 grandchildren; and a host of great- grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and many dear friends.
Funeral arrangements and memorial service were entrusted to the Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Friendship Chapel in Inwood. Interment was at St. Michael's Crematory, East Elmhurst, New York.
