Fire Destroys Second Floor Of Belle Harbor Home

Firefighters from all over the peninsula responded to an all-hands fire at 137-15 Newport Avenue in Belle Harbor, and many locals were drawn from their beds or from their television sets at 9:33 p.m. on Monday, March 23, by the blare of sirens and the flames rising over neighboring homes. Fire officials say that the fire, which started on the second floor porch, was declared under control at 10:01 p.m. While the fire destroyed the second floor in the two-story frame house, there were no injuries to either civilians or firefighters reported. Fire officials say that the blaze was not of suspicious origin.
