USPS Hero Is Honored By Community, Elected Officials, 100 Pct CC

Katharine Pichardo-Erskine, representing Senator Malcolm Smith's office, awards mail carrier Melvin Cauley, Jr. for his heroics when he helped save a Rockaway Beach woman last month after she fell and became trapped in her home for more than a week. Transit District Captain Phylis Byrne and 100 Precinct Community Council President Danny Ruscillo also recognized the efforts of Transit District 23 officer, Mark Grant for overall superb police work. The council also gave out their cop of the month awards to the two police officers, Steve Kelly and Brian Babiak, who rescued the woman after Cauley, Jr. alerted police, feeling something was wrong after not seeing her for nearly a week.
