RWA Gives Kids Healthy Food Choices

Rockaway Waterfront Alliance's Environmentor after school program recently welcomed two special guests to talk about healthy food choices and the need for being health conscious. The Kids Culinary Day Camp met with the students at NYCHA Ocean Bay Community Center to prepare a delicious chicken teriyaki salad meal that won high accolades amongst the Environmentors.

Students helped Chef Moses and Chef Rivera chop a variety of vegetables and crush nuts into their delicious dish. The dish even contained a few items that raised eyebrows, such as Chinese wontons. However, after a few test samples students were eager for more!

"It's important that students know that there are other choices aside from a bag of chips and soda," said Chef Rivera when asked about the importance of a balanced diet for children. Chef Moses also told students about the potential for highly desired job opportunities in the field. "We need to let students know that not only can they take control of their health, but they too can begin seeking professions in these arenas. We must begin to tell our young people that there are many professions to aspire for outside of athletics where they can still have fun!"
