" Take Charge Of Your Children

" Dear Editor, I would like to give a big hug to Monsignor Brown for his bringing up a very important problem that has been covered up a long time - alcoholism in Rockaway - now especially in young children. [The] St. Patrick's Day [Parade] brought this to light. Please parents, take this seriously - it is important! Unfortunately the children weren't scared or sorry. They cursed the policemen. Where does this come from?

I have heard the young ladies going home from Stella Maris and their language is awful. If I were a parent paying for their education and heard my daughter using this language, I would be horrified! I hope they don't hear it at home.

Even if you don't think either of these things bother your home - all it takes is a "cool" kid in his or her friendship - they will use and copy that "cool" kid.

The same warning in cigarettes should be put in alcohol - think of all the people who are killed by drunk drivers and the sadness that cigarettes cause health problems. I hope and pray that everyone will take this problem seriously and take charge of these precious children.

BARBARA FREY
