Mail carrier Melvin Cauley Jr., who helped save a Rockaway Beach woman from her death, will be honored on Wednesday by the 100 Precinct Community Council and Assemblywoman Audrey Pheffer for his heroic actions. The 100 Precinct Community Council will hold their monthly meeting this Wednesday night in Rockaway Beach and will pay tribute to the mail carrier who saved the life of a local woman after she fell and became immobile in her home for more than a week.

The meeting will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Beach 90 Street between Beach Channel Drive and Rockaway Freeway at 7:30 p.m. Melvin Cauley, Jr., the mail carrier and the two police officers who responded to the scene will be honored by Assemblywoman Audrey Pheffer and the council for their heroic deeds.

Cauley, 27, noticed last month that the 72-year-old retired school teacher, who is typically home at all times, hadn't answered her door in several days and notices for packages and mail had piled up.

That's when Cauley alerted the 100 Precinct, who went by her home in Rockaway Beach and found her lying on the kitchen floor severely dehydrated and fatigued. The officers who rescued the woman will be awarded with the council's cop of the month award.
