Kearney Alive, Stella Loses In Playoffs
Stella Maris lost their first round CHSAA state Class B playoff game last Saturday afternoon in Buffalo.
The Number 8 seed Mt. St. Mary's of Lancaster, New York defeated the ninth seed Lady Flippers, 59-42 last Saturday afternoon at Holy Angels High School. Breezy Point resident Cathy Crockett will try to guide the first seed Bishop Kearney Lady Tigers to a CHSAA Class A state title starting tonight at 5 p.m. in Staten Island.
The Tigers will take on Number 8 seed Sacred Heart from Long Island. The game will take place at St. John Villa. A victory for Bishop Kearney will give them a matchup with host school's varsity girls' team on Saturday afternoon in the semifinals at 1 p.m.
The Class AA, A, and B state title games will be held at Christ the King High School on Sunday starting at 1 p.m.
Far Rockaway resident Jermaine Sanders scored a team high 19 points for Rice High School as they defeated All Hallows, 67-58, in the CHSAA city championship semifinals Wednesday night at St. John's University.
Sanders, a sophomore at the Manhattan school, will head to the city championship on Sunday at Fordham University as Rice faces Chris the King. The game will start at 3 p.m.
