Rockaway Rugby Club Hosts Fundraiser To Start Season

Voted St Patrick's Day "Best Party" for 16 consecutive years. Voted St Patrick's Day "Best Party" for 16 consecutive years. The Rockaway Rugby Fisheads have begun preparation for their 2009 season. This weekend will be their annual fundraiser to help the club offset some of their major expenses.

The event will be on the Tubridy's property (Beach 108) on Saturday, March 7. DJ Nico, Shilelagh Law and Wine with Sue will provide the entertainment for their supporters. Gates open at 2 p.m.

Rugger Pluggers: The AGM in December provided the rugby club with new leadership. Bob Johnson pushed for more involvement from the youth and they responded.

They didn't just respond to the administrative roles but also to the open bar (and tacos) at Bob's restaurant.

Since no one else could provide an open bar for the club, Bob Johnson will remain President until a suitable replacement can be found.

Trevor Tubridy was named the President's Apprentice and will learn his role from the famous Rugby Bob. Tubridy has already started his duties by not writing this article. Instead, he opted to go on vacation and will return when the beer truck arrives.

Kermit Egan will remain Club Treasurer, for obvious reasons. The Match Secretary, Scotty Bluntstein, started organizing the team schedule in December and will have the team's six - game schedule ready for next week.

Scotty has six open dates available and if you know of any rugby club that needs a game- please contact him: Scott@IratherPlaySoftball.com

Grouch McCann will remain the Field Manager and 7's Chairman for obvious reasons. Here's to a very Happy St. Patrick's Day from the Fisheads.
