Bishop Kearney Track Team Wins The Coogan 5K
Bishop Kearney's track team completed the indoor season on a high note with a win at the Coogan 5K Race. The Coogan five, Sarah "The Seaside Breeze" Donahue (Belle Harbor), "Queen" Mary Gallagher, (Belle Harbor), Meghan "Hollywood" Hayes (Marine Park), Kaitlyn "The Jet" Touhey (Belle Harbor) and Patti Ann "Fastquez" Vasquez (Windsor Terrace) won the high school division for the third straight year.
Donahue led the team with a personal best of 21 minutes and 30 seconds through the rolling hills of Upper Manhattan's section of Washington Heights. Kearney's top three runners, Donahue, Gallagher and Hayes, were all under the 22 minutes barrier for the 3.1 mile race. Touhey followed closely behind with a time of 23 minutes and Vasquez secured the win by running a personal best for the course in 24 minutes. The Kearney team was awarded the first place trophy by the Armory president and winner of the first New York City Marathon, Dr. Norbert Sanders. This was a great honor for the team.
