Drivers Should Be Cautious

Dear Editor,

I have been reading the letters about the school crossing guard in Belle Harbor recently. I don't doubt the sincerity of the people who are in support of this woman.

Many years ago, I was in a Highway Patrol Unit. You wouldn't believe the stupid stunts people pull while driving on the highway. I think a lot of people who live in Belle Harbor and own cars must be illiterate, because nobody seems to know what a stop sign is for. Whenever I drove through Belle Harbor, I went slowly and stayed in the right lane. Even that didn't guarantee my safety. Some of those morons would wait until you were right on top of them and pull right out in front of you anyway. It was worse on the section of roadway between the Marine Parkway Bridge and the entrance to Breezy Point.

They should rename the street "New York National Speedway." There's an old saying, "too soon oldt, too late schmart." I sold my car and gave up driving several years ago, in part, because I could no longer put up with the antics of other drivers.
