However, according to the artist behind the line, Stephanie Bellomo, the typical scenes of Rockaway are not the subjects. The architecture, rust, graffiti, places and things from Rockaway's past are center stage.

Bellomo shares the sights she finds intriguing about her hometown. Armed with a camera and self taught skills in screen printing, she photographs the sometimes overlooked beauty of Rockaway and screenprints it on tee shirts, paper and home items.

The artist is proud to state that bungaloe is completely handmade, from the photos and the screens, to the printing, graphic design and sometimes sewing. Occasionally she gets help in this enterprise, still in its infancy, from her boyfriend who makes five-foot-long skateboards in the same "factory," which is called Homegrown Heavyz Skateboards.

bungaloe [sic] is about appreciating the little things and seeing beauty in unexpected places, says Bellomo. You can find bungaloe on the internet: www.bungaloe.etsy.com, in Boarders Surf Shop on Beach 92 Street between Holland Avenue and Rockaway Beach Boulevard in Rockaway Beach and coming soon to other Rockaway shops.

RAA's next exhibit is "Geoff's Painting Class Show." Like the instructor himself, RAA President Geoff Rawling, there is no pretentious title here. What you see is what it is. The show runs from March 7-March 29. The opening reception is Sunday, March 8, 1-3 p.m. in sTudio 6, RoCA. Admission is free. On display will be work, in diverse styles, created in Rawling's two classes in Fort Tilden. Artists of all ages and levels of experience (from professional to beginner) are welcome to express themselves fully, freely under the experienced tutelage of Rawling. His teaching style brings out the best and most inventive, encouraging all to modes of creativity of which they never thought themselves capable.

It's a doubleheader. The next meeting of the RAA Writers Group will be on Sunday, March 8 at 4 p.m. in sTudio 6. Discussion at the last meeting once more turned to the myriad possibilities being offered the writer at RAA. Thursday Open Mike Nights in sTudio 7 are always open to and welcoming of poetry, prose readings, short plays, comedy, performance and more. RAA's No Shame Theatre, which performs improvised and more structured pieces, is a ready vehicle for collaboration. Intriguing ideas were freely discussed. These structures for invention will likely appear in future RAA special events.

The group is already spawning new works, some by members now collaborating with each other. Two of the members who read their work, were given feedback from others that sparked possibilities for developing and expanding themes and characters in the original. Three women performed a very funny play written by one of them, filled with unexpected plot twists and done with no rehearsal or previous collaboration.

In the words of the group's leader, Dan Guarino, "To me it was great to have such a great back and forth within the group, constructive criticism and feedback, and of course such a wide variety of genres and works presented. To me that's what this group is all about."
