Rockaway High Schools Battle In PSAL B-Ball Playoffs

By Elio Velez

The Far Rockaway boys and girls varsity basketball teams will travel on Tuesday, February 24 to take part in the first round of the PSAL playoffs.

The Seahorses boys' team, who finished the regular season at 8-8 in the PSAL A League and qualified for the playoffs for the first time since 2004, will travel to #27 seed Sheepshead Bay (10-6) at 5 p.m. The #38 seed Lady Seahorses (8-8, PSAL B League) need leading scorer Quenise Holland (28 points per game) to deliver plenty of points in their clash against #27 Brooklyn Studio Secondary School (10-6).

"I had told them we were ranked 38th in the city and she (Holland) laughed and she said. 'I'm going to show them', said head coach Les Sabbah.

If the Lady Seahorses win, they will take on #6 seed Environmental Studies on February 26.

The Beach Channel (8-10, PSAL AA) boys' varsity team will travel on Wednesday, February 25 at 5 p.m. to take on #13 seed Samuel Gompers (8-9) in the Bronx.
