Kids Korner: Looking At Sports

An Interview With Aces Defenseman Doug Hoffman
By Ryan Schwach Fourth Grade, PS 114

Aces Forward Doug Hoffman speaks with Ryan Schwach Aces Forward Doug Hoffman speaks with Ryan Schwach I spent some time in between periods of an Aces' game with Doug Hoffman, one of their defenseman. Doug is from Long Island and sometimes his family attends games. Last year, he played in the PIHA (Professional Inline Hockey Association) for the Long Island 495s where he scored 29 points.

In the EPHL (Eastern Professional Hockey League), he has 27 points (4 goals and 23 assists) so far. He is the only defenseman who has played in every single Aces game (32). At 6'3, he is one of the tallest players on the team.

During the game last week against Danbury, he hurt his leg, but when I asked the next day how he was feeling, he said "it was still hurting", but he kept playing.

I asked him who on the Aces he most liked to play with. He said, "I love playing with Jesse (Felten) and Mike (Thomson), but I love all the guys on the team, I can't pick just one."

When asked who he admired as a kid, he picked Brian Leetch, and Adam Graves. In an earlier interview, James Branigan had also told me he admired Brian Leetch.

If he played in the NHL, he would like to play for the Rangers. He is the third Aces player who has told me that.

In other news: Eddie Neville was named goalie of the week after getting first shutout in league history, and it is my birthday, February 11th.

Next week: Aces Forward CJ Tozzo!
