Stacy's Tax Tips

Commentary By Stacy Sands, CPA

Welcome back to my tax tips. Hopefully you are pulling those tax docs together because tax season is in full swing: 1. The credit for first-time homebuyers will now be expanded to 10 percent of the purchase price up to $15,000 and won't be limited to first-time homebuyers. Look for my tax tips to update you on this and other tax items that are being decided on once they are laws. 2. Make sure you tell your tax preparer the amount of the 2007 stimulus payment you received. If you received less than $600, you may be entitled to receive something on your 2008 return. 3. The deadline for brokers to send all 1099 forms has been extended this year to February 17. You should receive them shortly thereafter. 4. Don't forget those energy credits. If you have purchased energy efficient windows, doors, appliances, etc., don't forget to tell your tax preparer to get you a tax credit.
