St. Camillus/St. Virgilius Teams Continue Hot Winning Streak

On Sunday, January 17 the St. Camillus/St. Virgilius Eighth Grade boys' basketball team traveled to Brooklyn to face the Hebrew Educational Society in an Interparish Basketball League matchup. The S.C.V. squad came away with a 61- 43 victory. Sean O'Connell led the offense with 22 points. Shakury Reynolds scored 11 points, Tyquan Murray had 10 points and Greg Charles and Kajeen Williams each had 8 points.

On the following Saturday, January 24, the team was at home against Our Lady of Hope.

S.C.V., which was led by O'Connell with 22 points, went on to defeat Hope, 42-36. Greg Charles had 9 points and Bryan Brennan, Tristan Nevirs and Anthony Laporta each had 4 points.

On Sunday, January 25, it was back to Brooklyn as S.C.V. faced Fort Greene in the squad's third I.B.L. game. S.C.V. led throughout and steamrolled to a convincing 42-23 win. The team was led by O'Connell with 17 points and by Charles with 16 points. Kevin Magee had 4 points, Shakury Reynolds chipped in with 3 points and Tristan Nevirs had 2 points.

On January 26, the S.C.V. boys finished off a busy weekend with a nightcap against Our Lady of Mercy.

The S.C.V. team got an overall effective performance from the entire team, which resulted in a 59- 52 victory. O'Connell led S.C.V with 23 points. Nevirs scored 11 points while Brennan and Charles each had 7 points. Dennis Nee, Laporta and Williams chipped in 4 points each. The boys are developing into an unselfish group of fundamentally sound ballplayers who have come a long way since the beginning of the season.

On Friday, January 16, the S.C.V. Ninth Grade boys' team improved their record to 7-3 with a big win over St. Margaret's, 44-21. The team was forced to step up their game with three of their players missing.

The team was led by center Ian Clayman, who played great defense and had 20 rebounds. Andrew Thomas had 12 points and 8 assists. Also contributing to the scoring was Kareem Padgett, who had 11 points, Julian Morales scored 7 points, Tommy Mercer had 6 points, Scott Appelman and Kieran Rogers scored 4 points each. On January 24 and 25 the S.C.V. ninth grade boys walked away with two big wins to improve their record to 9-3.

Last Saturday, the boys played Blessed Sacrament and won by the score of 46-34. The team was led by Jyshawn Allen, who scored 13 points. Mike Miginn chipped in with 11 points along with Julian Morales and Kareem Padgett, who added 6 points each. Everyone on the team contributed to the win with physical play and great defense.

Last Sunday, the boys played Resurrection Ascension and won by the score of 55-40. Jyshawn Allen led the team with 21 points and 7 assists along with Mike Miginn, who had 12 points and 20 rebounds. The boys will try to extend their four game winning streak this weekend, as they play their next game on Saturday, January 31 at home against St. Matthias at 4:00 p.m.
