The 100 Precinct Community Council held their monthly gathering this past Wednesday night at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Beach 90 Street and introduced the newest member of the precinct, Executive Officer Scott Stelmok.

100 Precinct Captain Tom Barrett says the role of executive officer, which has been vacant for most of his year and a half tenure, is to provide support to the precinct and perform the captain's duties in his absence. Stelmok is a lieutenant from Queens North and former field intelligence officer.

The council also announced this week that the Cash for Guns program will be held on February 21 with time and places to be announced in the upcoming weeks. The program provides $200 to any person who surrenders a working gun. There are no questions asked and the individual remains anonymous.

In an attempt to reach a wider audience and learn more about the specific needs of the 100 Precinct communities, the council will hold next month's meeting on Wednesday, February 25 at 7:30 p.m., at the V.F.W. Post in Broad Channel, located at 705 Shad Creek Road. Cops of the Month, Police Officers Michael Cohen and Paul Muggeo, will be honored.

The 100 Precinct Youth Committee honored an 8-year-old boy and member of the committee's chess club with an achievement award. The boy must leave the committee and will be transferring to a Manhattan school. Committee Chairperson Linda Ruscillo wished him the best and says the entire Youth Committee will miss not only his superb chess ability, but his sense of humor and enthusiastic personality.
