Simon Calls On Residents To Attend MTA Hearing

Lew Simon, chair of the Cross Bay Bridge Toll Committee, has called on residents of Rockaway, Broad Channel and Breezy Point to stop complaining and join in unity to attend the MTA Queens budget hearing on Tuesday, January 20. The meeting will be at the Sheraton LaGuardia East Hotel at 135-20 39 Avenue, Flushing. The hearing will begin at 6 p.m. Registration of speakers ends at 9 p.m.

In addition to other increases and service cuts, local residents will have to pay the toll whenever they cross the bridge from Broad Channel to Rockaway, Simon says.

"We are working to obtain a bus to take residents from Rockaway to the hearing. If you are interested or can help us in any other way, you may call 945-1216. We need to hear from you immediately. If you plan to go directly from work, call us so that we can have a seat for you," the City Council candidate added.

"The residents' rebate program has been in effect since 1998. I have made it my priority to do what we did the last time to fight and give them hell." Simon said. "Join us for a rally and march over the Cross Bay Bridge on Sunday, February 25 at 2 p.m," he added.
