The Style Insider
Hello again and welcome back to The Style Insider. I hope everyone had a happy and healthy holiday. This time of year can be the most draining. However, with all of this stress going on, it is not the time to let your style slip. Instead, why not enhance your wardrobe and look your best for the New Year. In this week's issue, I will give you the latest trends in fashion for women.
Now, depending upon your specific style, you may or may not agree with the following trends. However, based on my research, these fashions are for the general consumer.
Let's start with shirts. Black on white printed blouses are the most popular. The prints and patterns on these blouses can range from floral to multi-prints. The main colors of focus are tomato red, royal blue, and gray. This does not mean that all of these colors can be mixed together in one piece. No, no, no. The shirt should be one or two patterns with a max of one or two colors. The more popular details to look for in a blouse are the structured look, boho embellishment, and ethnic embroidery, according to FashionSnoops database. The most popular fabrics are satins and silks. If you happen to find a black and white printed sheer blouse, go with a white tee or tank top underneath to maximize the visibility of the pattern.
Because of the current status of the economy, it is hard to find versatile items that are fashionable and affordable. But, if you keep the following items in your closet this season, you'll find that it is a lot easier to stay stylish than you think. The key items to add to your wardrobe are a dimensional skirt, bohemian dress, and ruffled jacket. These items can liven up your current wardrobe and upgrade your style. Old Navy currently has a beautiful dimensional skirt that retails for $20 in sizes 0-20. At www.adorevintage. com, I found a lovely bohemian dress that retails for $58. Lastly, at www.victoriassecret. com, I found a stunning ruffled jacket that retails for $59 in sizes 0-14.
And what about dresses? This season, dresses are all about volume and boldness. This does not include your little black dress, which should always stay simple and reflect your personal sense of style. Instead, a dress with volume should be worn to an event such as a wedding, christening, or birthday party.
Coats are a touchy subject for any girl looking for the right fit and the right silhouette all in one. According to my research, double-breasted, plaid, quilted, and faux fur coats are the trendiest to wear on a cold day this season. Calvin Klein designed a beautiful double-breasted coat that can be found at Macys. It retails for $164 in sizes 4- 14. If you're looking for a trendy plaid coat, why not try Urban Outfitters. They currently have a very chic plaid coat for $360 in sizes S-L.
If you are the type who feels comfortable in a quilted coat, check out Macys. They have a very cute and practical quilted coat that retails for $75 in sizes S-L. Faux fur is in big time this season. This animal-friendly option not only will provide you with warmth, but with style and fashion sense.
Ladies, leggings are still in big time. Pairing leggings with a pair of knee high boots and a long sweater will give you an edge in any fashion book. Leggings don't have to be worn with just boots and sweaters. You can dress them up with your favorite dress and stilettos. You can also go with the comfort look and add Ugg boots and a long-sleeved shirt for that effortless "just-woke-up" appearance. My favorite leggings are from American Apparel that retail for $30 in sizes S-L.
Last but definitely not least, jeans! Not only can jeans be worn with anything, but women of every size and every shape can feel comfortable and look put together in a good pair of jeans. When I asked a few friends and family members where they bought their favorite jeans, they mentioned brands and stores such as Lee, Old Navy, Charlotte Russe, and DKNY. So, the next time you're out shopping for a comfortable, form fitting pair of jeans, check out these stores and I'm sure you will find the perfect pair.
