Sunday: Art Reception And Publishing Guest; Honors For KidsmART Directors
Commentary by Susan Hartenstein

Congratulations to RAA's Marina Callaghan and Christine Mullally, who are being honored by the Graybeards at their annual dinner dance as RAA representatives and kidsmART directors. Callaghan is Program Director and Mullally is Education Director.

The dinner dance will be held at El Caribe in Brooklyn on Saturday, February 7, 2009. All are welcome. The ticket price is $125 per person. If you are interested in attending, please contact the RAA office ASAP.

The opening reception for "Heritage," RAA's exhibition exploring our cultural origins and our journeys in this "melting pot" that is America, is Sunday, January 18 from 1 to 3 p.m. in sTudio 6 Gallery, RoCA at Fort Tilden. Live entertainment, including the spoken word, and delicious refreshments will grace the afternoon.

For each of the travelers to our country there has been a unique path to the present; sometimes difficult sometimes wondrous, sometimes generations old sometimes not. Though each path can be fascinating in its differences, it reveals elements with which we each can identify. "Heritage" is on view Saturday, January 17 through Sunday, February 15. Gallery hours are Saturdays 12-4 p.m., Sundays 1-4 p.m. and by appointment. Admission is free to reception, exhibit and to special events

during the run of "Heritage."

Following the reception on January

........ 18, the RAA Writers Group holds its monthly meeting, beginning at 4 p.m. in sTudio 6 Gallery. Guest is Nita Taublib, Deputy Publisher and Editorial Director for the Bantam Dell Publishing Group. To facilitate free discussion and encourage audience involvement, Taublib will first speak to the group informally and then entertain questions from those attending. All are welcome to attend and to come with two or three questions to ask the guest, whose experience in the fields relating to writing and publishing is extensive.

She has worked for Bantam Dell for 21 years. In her dual roles as Deputy Publisher and Editorial Director, she manages all aspects of the adult hardcover, trade and mass market publishing program from acquisition and scheduling, to packaging and production, and helps the publisher to set and implement sales goals. Taublib oversees art, production, managing editorial, the copy department and the editorial department.

Among the best-selling fiction and non-fiction authors Bantam Dell publishes are Lee Child, Daniel Goleman, John Grisham, Stephen Hawking, Dean Koontz and Danielle Steele. She has held managerial positions with other important publishing houses, and to round out her knowledge in her chosen field, Taublib has taken many classes in the technical aspects of publishing.

In addition to these credentials, Taublib holds a bachelor's degree in Anthropology from Binghamton, SUNY New York.

Thanks go to Stuart Mirsky for arranging Nita Taublib's participation with the Writers Group.

So come Sunday for the art and the lively discussion; and we encourage you to bring your writing to share with the group.

Bring your words to light at RAA.
