Crime is Not Down

Dear Editor,

Greetings and Happy New Year:

Crime is "not" down in New York City! Perhaps if you only focus on those that the precincts and media actually "report", it would almost seem believable. It is amazing that Bloomberg and Kelly see such a decline in murder rates when it fact, murder is on the rise! Gun violence, rapes, gang violence and "other under reported crimes" are a daily occurrence in many of the communities in Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Bronx and Staten Island.

As a simple-minded person, I must ask: if crimes are down in New York City, why were "thousands" arrested and incarcerated? Did they commit a crime or not? If these "thousands" of people did not commit a crime, then perhaps something is very wrong with our criminal justice system! Otherwise, let's tell it like it is because the people in this city know what is happening in their communities. Petty or not, crime is a crime!

It is also a "New Year and also Election Year" and we do not need the Mayor or Police Commissioner trumpeting the decline in crime, when loved ones continue to suffer from the impact of crimes committed and not acknowledged.

Enough is enough!
