Santa and his elves with the managers of Queens County Savings Bank, Joann Dougherty and Donna Donlon. The Monsignor William F. Burke Rockaway Council #2672 enjoyed the weeks before Christmas commencing with the parking lot manger set up on November 29 in preparation for the international "Light Up for Christ" theme celebration on December 2 at 8 p.m. Many hands made for light work with the manger construction and the blessing. Lighting of the manger was well attended by joyful members and neighbors.

The following week the Beach 116 street manger was constructed by a group of members near the Beach 116 Street Christmas tree.

The members of the Knights of Columbus, joined by many members of the Daniel M. O'Connell-American Legion Post 272 and guests, enjoyed food, spirits, and companionship at the members' Christmas party on December 19, all contributing gifts for less fortunate kids throughout the Rockaways.

Children and grandchildren of the Knights of Columbus members enjoyed their Christmas party on December 21 with a magic show. They received gifts from Santa Claus.

A dozen members got together on December 23 for a Far Rockaway to Belle Harbor mission to spread some happiness. Santa and eleven elves packed up the gifts from the members' party and made their first stop at Peninsula Hospital Center Pediatrics, where Liz Sulik and Joanie George warmly greeted them for an escort to pediatrics.

The next stop was St. John's Episcopal Hospital where Santa and the elves were greeted by Renee Carr and escorted to pediatrics and the E.R.

Toys and games were given to all of the pediatric in-patients with enough left over to cover children staying over the Christmas season.

Santa and the elves headed west with a stop at St. Gertude's Church for another large drop-off; the staff was elated.

The last stop was to the Queens County Savings Bank on Beach 129 Street for a drop-off of gifts to the U.S.M.C. Toys for Tots program.

Members of the Knights of Columbus wish everyone happiness, good health, safety, and peace throughout 2009.
